Virtual Boy has made some waves in the West Coast bass scene with their epic symphony like tracks. They are one of my favorite producers to open or close a set with live due to this nature. Not to mention they incorporate IDM/8-Bit sounds which I love. The opening track comes at you right away and feels like it’s a big statement to start off with such a massive tune. The duo comes right out the door with guns blazing. They brought the bass with them this time and even some of that midrange business that gives any DJ an monster track with your typical robot vocoder lines. The rest of the track seem to fall of a bit from the opener but what do you expect with such a massive tune to open up with.
The meat of this release is filled by wondrous cinematic like instrumentals. None of them really capture too much from me but it’s not as if they aren’t well put together. What surprised me the most about this self titled release is how it off. The last three tracks follow so well and it’s almost a shame that they are so far down the tracklist. I feel like they should of been a bit spread out to give a full proper listen a better edge.
Overall if you’re a fan of bass, 8bit, IDM, & epic synths you should check this one out when it comes out on Alpha Pup records February 2nd. Be sure to check out one of my favorite tracks from the album and free single below.
